The word “quilt” comes from the Latin word “culcita,” which means “mattress” or “cushion.” The English first used the word sometime around 1250. The contemporary version of quilting, in which stuffing goes between two layers of fabric, started in France before English and American quilters copied that style.Rudimentary quilting dates back to China around 3000 B.C. when warriors quilted chest protectors together. Ancient Egyptians also quilted clothing out of pieces of fabric. The world’s oldest quilt still in existence is the Tristan Quilt, which sits in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Experts believe the Tristan Quilt was made sometime between 1360 and 1400.

BOM - Block of the Month #3

 Georgia's BOM Blog!

Lakeside Block

Welcome to Lakeside Block 3.  This month you are going to have fun making all of the half square triangles and then turn them into various star type blocks.  There are 8 blocks to make this month, each a little different from the next.  Remember to watch that you do not stretch the bias edges while both sewing and pressing, and be sure to label all of the units as you complete them so when it comes time to piece the blocks you will be putting the correct units to the correct corresponding unit.

These blocks are straight forward to sew, and as long as you remember the basics, I don't think you will have much difficulty.  Please remember that we are always available to help you if you have something that you do not understand.

Enjoy month 3, Block 3 and I'll talk to you next month with a very easy block.
